We are sharing Kathak – a north Indian classical dance form, from the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississauga’s of the Credit, and the traditional land of the Anishinaabe, the Wendat and the Haudensuanee.
This territory is within the lands protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Haudnesaunee, the Anishnaabe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.
Today, Toronto (Ktaronto) is the home of many indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to be able to work on this land. As artists, we strive to increase our knowledge of, and ability to honour these treaties more wholistically within community.
