    Bell ceremony

     On February 21, 2023, students shared in a special ghungroo (bell) ceremony and now have emabarked on a new path in their study!
    Thanks to Ira Raina and Amrit Phull for their knowledgeable and passionate teaching, and to Jaliya Fonseka for documenting the event with such beautiful photographs.

      On December 18, 2022, M-DO/KathakToronto presented our student showcase AAMAD -  new works created independently by students and a sampling of some of our Gharana compositions.

      Rhyme and Reason

      2019 M-DO/KathakToronto annual student recital  featuring school choreographies by Joanna de Souza and Chad Walasek and 7 personal, solo and duet works created by dancers Sucheta Heble, T.P. Chai, Natasha Manji and Aarti Anand, Jane Morris, Moona Syed and Chad Walasek. All original music created by Joanna de Souza, Santosh Naidu, Ian de Souza, and Irfan Manji. Chad Walasek works by Moksha and Vas. 

      Kathak dancer Joanna de Souza and Flamenco dancer Esmeralda Enrique join forces to create Amalgam, in celebration of DanceWorks 40th Anniversary Season.  Stellar Canadian musicians Ian de Souza, Caroline Plante, Maryem Hassan-Tollar and Santosh Naidu perform their original score live. 

       Wa Seh Ke Jac and Ancient Futures -  created for FFIDA - Fringe Festival of Independent Dance Artists,  circa 1991 - 1992 

       Garden of Stone – Directed by Gregory Nixon, Interpreted by Joanna de Souza circa 1995 

      Zebra and the Lion -  Joanna de Souza created the audio score for this wonderful animated commercial, designed to raise awareness and funds, through the UN Association of Canada..  This initiative helped bring sports equipment to kids in war torn areas of the world. circa 2007
